The specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is concerned with diagnosis and study of the causes and effects of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Clinical training in oral and maxillofacial pathology includes two components: diagnostic histopathology and direct patient investigations. Students receive rigorous training in oral, head and neck, and general pathology to achieve competency in oral and maxillofacial pathology.

Diagnostic Procedures
Histopathological diagnoses are regularly provided through routine and special staining procedures. Additionally, FNAC and exfoliative cytology are used as preliminary screening procedure while we also have a well-equipped Immunohistochemistry lab to obtain a confirmative and specific diagnosis in special cases. Photo-binocular microscope (Leica Co.) in the department has been popular with many departments for providing the photomicrographs of the stained histologic sections for archiving or academic publications.

Apart from teaching, the Department maintains enormous Case Archives, facilities for photomicrography, fluorescent, polarizing and dark ground microscopy, which provide the infrastructure and material for advanced diagnostic and research studies.
